Birding Far North Queensland

Portland Road is a small community near Iron Range National Park.  There is accomodation at Portland House, which serves as a good launching point for the coastal habitats and the rainforest in the region.

Portland Road is accessible by 4WD through most of the year, however in the wet season, starting early December most years, the area is cut off by flooding rivers for several months.  To access the area you must cross the Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers so some 4WD experience is recommended.
