Coral Coast Spectacular
From $3400.00 * AUD
Experience the awe inspiring Australian west coast where the Indian Ocean collides with the cliffs of a rainbow-hued desert, then relax in the sheltered waters behind the exquisite coral reef of Ningaloo.
Perched at the edge of a vast continent, Quobba Station’s cliffs are pounded by swells. As you gaze out towards the setting sun over the ocean understand that the first landfall is Madagascar. Explore rugged cliffs, watch a parade of leaping Humpback Whales and see Red Kangaroos grazing then drive to the town of Coral Bay a few hundred metres from Ningaloo Reef, where Manta Rays forage year-round. Sail and snorkel, beach comb and swim in this pristine and isolated reef. At the right time of year (April to July), complete your trip with a Whale Shark swim before flying out of Exmouth.
- Rugged cliffs, thunderous west coast seas and blow holes at Quobba Station
- Swimming with Manta Rays, year-round, in the company of dedicated researchers
- Spend time in one of the most pristine and isolated reefs in the world
- Swim with the largest fish in the world and support scientific research on Whale Sharks (seasonal)
Day 1-2 This self-drive itinerary begins with a flight into Carnarvon from Perth where you pick up your hire car. Take an hour’s drive to spectacular blow holes and the entrance to Quobba Station. Staying in a beach-side shack, you’ll be inspired by the beauty of the coastline. During whale migration, Humpback Whales will pass by as dolphins surf in the endless rollers and Red Kangaroos drop in to drink at the station’s watering holes. Explore the coastal trails that wind up the sides of 100m cliffs.
Day 3-5 Heading north to Coral Bay, you’ll get a sense of the vast isolation of the desert. After dinner, you’ll join a sunset sail and stay overnight in the reef-side resort. The next day, you’ll join the scientists who’ve worked hard to protect Ningaloo for many years and study the resident Manta Rays. On your final day in Coral Bay, you’ll go quad-biking through the coastal dunes and take a final dip underwater, snorkelling on the reef, before a drive to nearby Exmouth.
Day 6 The last day of this trip is seasonally-dependent. During the months of April to July, majestic Whale Sharks appear off the coast. You’ll join a local research group that uses tourism to help fund vital research on these incredible animals (seasonal, Apr-Jul).
Day 7 Drive to the airport and drop off the hire car before your return flight.
7 days mid sized car rental, 8 nights accommodation, mix of guided and self-driving experiences, 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 2 dinners.
