No trip to Malanda is complete without a visit to Malanda Falls. Below the falls, they've created a swimming pool. There's a good chance a Tree Kangaroo will be watching you while you swim as this is one of the best places locally to see them.

On Saturday at the adjacent Tree Kangaroo Cafe, local aboriginal Ernie is available to show you around. Unfortunately, we were there a day too early. Initially we looked ourselves but to no avail. On returning later that day however, imagine our delight, to find a young female sitting right out in the open feeding over the car park. What an amazing animal - and an incredible daytime encounter. Shame that two tourists walking past exclaimed "oh it's a possum' and walked on...
